How to choose the right teacher for you
When it comes to finding the right teacher for you, I can help you because I have been in your position before and I know from experience what felt right and what turned out to be an error later on.
It might not happen often but for me it happened a couple times that I knew in an instant that these people were going to be my mentors for a lifetime. First time it happened to me was when I was just fifteen years old. That one lesson turned my life upside down and looking back, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
But it also happened to me that what felt like a “must” decision, turned out to be not such a great choice overall.
First of all, know what you are looking for and what type of lessons will make you thrive. If you don’t know that yet, don’t worry and ask the teacher what helps him/her motivate their students. If your aim is to learn more about good posture while playing or prepare yourself for an international competition, you might need different approaches.
Here are some questions you might want to think about before having your first lesson:
Are you somebody who is highly self motivated or do you thrive in group lessons? Is your teacher willing to accommodate to your wants and needs? How much experience does your teacher have with students similar level to you? Would you trust your teacher with sharing your own ideas and believes?
Choosing the right teacher for you might take time but once you do find one, I can assure you that your time was worth it all because now you are with somebody who is willing to help you grow and achieve your own personal goals.
